"I am deeply committed, both personally and professionally, to enhance and empower young people in our society so they may live full and healthy lives. We are all challenged by societal pressures; to live up to expectations of family, friends, and others. When we find that we are consumed with thoughts of inadequacy and poor self-esteem, our actions can be misdirected, painful, and damaging to ourselves and those around us. Please allow me to guide you to a healthier way of life!"
What is a Registered Dietitian?
A Registered Dietitian is your "go to" nutrition expert. They are extensively trained in the biochemical and physiological aspects of food and nutrition. Typically, they have a minimum of four years of education in Dietetics at an undergraduate institution and an additional 1-4 years of upper division or graduate education. A Registered Dietitian (R.D.) is certified by the American Dietetics Association (ADA) and maintains this status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) by obtaining continued education and training on a yearly basis. The R.D. is the only person that is legally qualified to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for diseases such as Diabetes, Cancer, Metabolic Syndrome, kidney Failure, Eating Disorders, as well as many other medical complications. The R.D. plays an important role in the medical or therapeutic approach as part of the multi-disciplinary team. MNT is often recognized by insurance companies as an essential component in medicine and disease therapy.
A Nutrition Therapist is a Dietitian that focuses on the behavioral and psychosocial aspects of eating, how food affects mood, and the necessary steps that one must take in order to change behavior and lifestyle for improved health.
Anyone can call themselves a "Nutritionist." But only the Registered Dietitian is truly expert in food, vitamins and minerals, and nutrition education in all aspects of health and disease throughout the life cycle. |
